The August 28 Modern Warfare 4 Beta update changes several systems that directly affect how you should build and test Multiplayer classes. A Bot Lobby MW4 setup is not an official MW4 feature, so players should instead use the Firing Range and available Beta playlists to test the revised weapon damage, movement, and aiming behavior. The Open Beta is available from August 28 through September 1, and Weekend 2 introduces major changes to Tactical Sprint, aim assist, spawns, Killstreaks, and the entire Beta weapon roster.
Change Your Movement Class Before Your Weapon
Tactical Sprint is no longer part of the default movement package. Infinity Ward moved it to the Blood Rush Perk, while also changing how it behaves. Tactical Sprint now has the same sprint-to-fire time as the base sprint, but its movement speed is 4% lower.
The rest of the movement system has been adjusted around that change:
- Knife base sprint speed is increased.
- All pistol base sprint speeds are increased.
- Slide distance is reduced by 10%.
- Slide speed is reduced by 9%.
- The delay between sliding and jumping is increased.
- Stamina is reduced by 8%.
- Mantling and climbing received additional fixes.
If your class depends on Tactical Sprint, equip Blood Rush before entering a match. If you prefer holding lanes and taking controlled engagements, use the perk slot for another option instead of selecting it automatically.
Retest Your Weapon at Several Ranges
Infinity Ward did not increase base player health to change TTK. Instead, every weapon in the Beta received an update for Weekend 2, with damage values, damage ranges, or hit-location multipliers adjusted to give players more room to survive engagements.
That means an old weapon ranking is not enough for the new weekend. Test the weapon at the distance where you normally fight and pay attention to how its damage curve changes.
| Weapon | Weekend 2 Change | Practical Use |
| Kastov 762 | Max damage 34 → 30; max range 22.2m → 24.1m | Mid-range rifle fights |
| M4 | Max damage 28 → 24; max range 20.3m → 26.3m | More consistent across its main range |
| Han 86 | Max damage 26 → 22; max range 23.5m → 28.4m | Controlled medium-range fire |
| Hyeon Burst | Max damage 36 → 30 | More emphasis on accurate bursts |
| Patriot XMR | Max damage 35 → 30; max range 22.2m → 29.9m | Longer-range precision |
| FiNN LMG | Max damage stays 33; max range 21.8m → 23.6m | Sustained fire |
| PPSh-41 | Max damage 22 → 19 | Short-range engagements |
| X-58 Nyx | Max damage 29 → 22 | Close-range SMG use |
The M4 is a good example of why you should not judge a weapon only by its maximum damage. Its maximum damage decreases, but that damage now extends farther, while its minimum damage increases from 16 to 19. The result is a flatter damage profile rather than a simple reduction in effectiveness.
Use the Firing Range to Rebuild Your Class
The Firing Range received a lighting and brightness adjustment for Weekend 2, making it a useful place to establish a new baseline before spending several matches testing the same weapon.
Use this order when rebuilding a loadout:
- Fire the weapon without attachments to establish its recoil behavior.
- Test your preferred optic or sight.
- Add attachments that solve a specific recoil, range, or handling problem.
- Check ADS movement and sprint-to-fire behavior.
- Test the weapon again at a longer distance.
- Take the revised class into Multiplayer only after the basic behavior feels consistent.
Attachment penalties have also been adjusted across several categories. The Aim Grip no longer carries an ADS movement-speed penalty, while Overpressured Rounds receive increased flinch infliction. Because these changes affect the tradeoffs of attachments, a setup that felt inefficient during Weekend 1 may now deserve another test.
Adjust How You Take Gunfights
The revised TTK direction gives players more opportunity to react after taking damage, but it does not remove the need for good positioning. If you lose the opening shots, break the opponent’s line of sight instead of standing in the same lane and hoping the damage exchange works in your favor.
SMGs especially need more deliberate range management. The PPSh-41’s maximum damage drops from 22 to 19, while the ISO Nightshade falls from 23 to 20. The X-58 Nyx receives a larger maximum-damage reduction from 29 to 22.
Use the following combat sequence:
Take the first shots → track the target → disengage if damaged → reposition → re-engage
Sliding should support that process rather than replace it. With shorter slides, slower slide speed, a longer slide-to-jump delay, and less stamina, repeatedly chaining movement actions is less reliable than choosing a good position before the fight begins.
Make Precision Weapons Work Around Flinch
Sniper rifles now receive 28% more received flinch, while marksman rifles receive 17% more. Precision players therefore need to make better use of cover and avoid staying exposed after every shot.
The KG-7 Vulcan keeps its 102 maximum damage, but its maximum-damage range increases from 56.8 meters to 67.5 meters. Its lower-torso multiplier is reduced from 1.02 to 1. The Signal .50 keeps its 102 maximum damage, but its second damage band ends earlier and its upper-torso multiplier drops from 1.75 to 1.3.
For these weapons, build your positioning around the new ranges rather than trying to hold the same angles you used during Weekend 1.
Rework Killstreak Timing and Spawn Awareness
All Killstreaks now require one additional kill. The UAV also has 60% less health and is 12% lower, while the Artillery Beacon has fewer missiles and smaller damage and shockwave radii.
Spawns have received several changes as well. The game now attempts to separate players more effectively, spawning near teammates is deprioritized, and Hardpoint received additional spawn tuning. Hardpoint on Rooftops is temporarily disabled because of a spawn bug.
Temporary spawn protection also includes Battle Hardened effects, reducing the impact of Flash and Concussion Grenades immediately after spawning.
If you normally rush toward a streak after every spawn, slow that process down. Read the minimap, establish your first safe position, and build the streak through normal gunfights rather than forcing an early engagement.
Build a Weekend 2 Testing Loop
The Open Beta adds more content alongside the balance changes, including Lithium, Hijack, Ground War: Combat Outpost, and Zodiac Resurgence. The Beta level cap has also increased to 30.
A useful testing loop is:
- Firing Range: establish recoil and attachment behavior.
- Quick Play: test the weapon in normal engagements.
- Hardpoint: check movement and sustained gunfights around objectives.
- Longer-range encounters: verify damage behavior outside your preferred distance.
- Class adjustment: change one or two attachments at a time.
- Repeat: return to the same engagement type and compare the result.
Players considering a cheap CoD MW4 Bot Lobby option should not treat third-party bot-lobby services as part of the official Beta structure. For legitimate MW4 practice, the Firing Range and official Beta Multiplayer modes provide the appropriate environment for testing the current balance.
Once you find a weapon that fits your preferred range, keep the class stable for several matches instead of changing every attachment after one bad death. Test Tactical Sprint through Blood Rush if you rely on aggressive movement, or build around a different perk if your fights are mostly positional. Then repeat the same weapon test after reaching new unlocks at the higher Beta level cap.
